In these works without beginning or end, the sounds were placed in space rather than in time. Starting from the premise that our sense of place depends on what we hear, as well as on what we see, he utilized a given social and aural context as a foundation to build a new perception of place with sound.

Resounding Experience (bill fontana)
thoughts….
interested in how the world makes music and how the act of listening is a way of making music. Fontana: trying to discover an art form that will let other people discover the magic of listening.
…taking sounds and radically altering the context where you would experience them…changes their meaning considerably. the sounds interact with the acoustics of the new space….’is this the same for video…or is the ‘moving image’ different from sound in that respect….is sound more believable….as it is ‘lived’ experience.
resounding….perfect solution when installing sound is that it feels natural in the space.
Authentic (how sounds are recorded): ‘i don’t have any external agendas with my work….on one hand i am very respectful of the sounds, but in the way that they’re recorded i deliberately try to reach what can be considered their essence, trying to really get to their energy source’
‘i try to find a way to record the sounds to ‘bring it back to life’

Research in Progress Exhibition, LCC
Winspit (2012) Ipad and motorized rig.
using the same display device as the footage was recorded….the moving image acts as a portal…a moving portal of the tracking ground….
new direction….
I realised that the act of recording and re-presenting were linked and could not be explored in isolation. I suddenly realised that there was potential for the ‘moving’ image to be ‘physically moving through’ the gallery space, using the mechanical rigs as recording and viewing devices.

Moving Site/Sight Exhibition, Feb 27th-11th March 2012, Meetfactory, Prague
reflection…..
Although using the rigs as a viewing device is an interesting concept the display is not physically connecting with the viewer….feels removed….maybe technology is ‘getting in the way’….
will try new ways of recording inspired by the viewing device….a conversation between the two. While testing in my studio i left my ipad playing on the floor….the movement of the footage….looked like a portal into another ground level….interesting….
by attaching a mini projector to the filming device, in the exact place that the camera was positioned….the film can be projected into a new environment at the same speed/angle as it was recorded…’.projecting the 360 degree film 360 degrees’
